Teacher Certification
The Education Department at Ursinus College offer secondary teacher certification to undergraduates in the day and post baccalaureate students in the evening.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
All students obtaining their teaching certification will be required to
obtain State clearances for field work required in ED/PSYC 265, EDUC320, EDUC 344, EDUC 441,
EDUC443, EDUC 493, EDUC 406 as well as ESS 355 and ESS 356.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires several State background
checks for alll
students observing in the school districts AND all students that are student
teaching in the school districts. Pennsylvania State finger prints are mandatory and the new
process for obtaining them must be followed. Our deadline for turning the
clearances in to the Education Department is the first week of classes in which
you are enrolled in any of the above listed courses. Any student that does
not turn in all three background clearances (Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151) will
have to be dropped from the course. A TB test is also required.

Areas of Certification
Ursinus College is approved by the
Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer Teacher Certification in
the following areas:
| Grades 7-12 Biology Chemistry English General Science* Mathematics Physics Social Studies |
Grades K-12 French German Japanese Latin Spanish Health/Physical Ed. Environmental Studies |
* This certification area is only offered in conjunction with Biology, Chemistry or Physics certification
Pennsylvania requires U.S. Citizenship for certification. Reciprocal agreements extend certification eligibility to most states, but some states require additional certification tests. Candidates who wish to teach outside Pennsylvania should contact state education departments for further information.
